It is free levels and honestly the extra damage you take is not significant enough it's only like 4% more or something like that. The scarseal is 12 free levels and the soreseal is 20 free levels so really there's no reason not to have it equipped especially if you're a melee build. The Soreseal gives +5 vit,end,str,dex and is godly. The damage increase barely matters apparently according to people who tested on reddit.
